PIKE named Roanoke College Fraternity of the Year, President Nathan Castellano Named Greek Man of the Year

This past Saturday, Phi Chapter was honored by Roanoke College as the Fraternity of the Year. The award was presented to the Chapter by Student Affairs during the annual Greek Awards Banquet.

Also accepting an award was Phi Chapter’s current President, Nathan Castellano. Brother Castellano was named the Greek Man of the Year.

Dr. Gene Zdziarski, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, presented the Greek Man of the Year and Fraternity of the Year awards.

Dean Gene gave a few words before each award was presented, “The Greek Man and Woman of the Year Awards are given to members of the Greek community that have given of their time and talents to benefit the Greek system, as well as the Roanoke College campus community. Additionally, these students selected based on their academic achievement, as well as character. These awards are selected by administrator’s in the division of Student Affairs, and is the highest honor a Greek man or woman can achieve on our campus.

This year, the Greek man of the year was selected for his leadership over the past year within his fraternity, as well as on Interfraternity Council. He was integral to the success of last year’s alumni weekend, due to hard work to promote the revised social event agreements for Alumni Weekend. He has gone above and beyond to promote the successes of the Greek community to faculty and staff, and we are please to award Nathan Castellano with Greek Man of the Year.”

Dean Gene then went on to present the Fraternity of the Year Award, ”

Finally, I would like to present one fraternity and one sorority with the highest honor a chapter can receive on the Roanoke College campus: Fraternity/Sorority Chapter of the Year. These awards were selected by administrators in the division of Student Affairs based on the awards applications that were turned by each chapter. Selection was based on 5 criteria: excellence in scholarship, service, social, leadership, and membership recruitment.

The fraternity chapter of the year has been successful in all of these areas. They expanded their chapter scholarship program, raised over $3000 for their philanthropy, has improved relationships within the college, community, and student body, is represented in a wide array of campus organizations, and was successful in their membership recruitment for both fall and spring semesters. In addition, they have implemented a strong program within their chapter to hold brothers accountable for their actions both on and off campus. It is with great pleasure that I award Pi Kappa Alpha as Fraternity Chapter of the Year.”

Add both of thse awards to the 10th annaversry of Phi Chapter’s rechartering, and a successful visit by our Regional Advisor, one could say that this has been a very successful year for the fraternity.

Looking forward to seeing everyone during Alumni Weekend.
